>> ama: as we pay transcribe brute this veteran day, a look at the hard reality many face after returning home from service. i'm ama daetz. the adjustment back to civilian life can prove to be a difficult one for our nation are veterans. on this veterans day two groups in san francisco are working to change that. tomas, unique job training event is going on? >> they're getting some special help here at adobe systems. happening veterans with military technical training, transportation signifies -- transition those skills and other places veterans are getting homes.

>> former marine is one of 40 vets taking part in the vehicles to tech hack-a-thon here at adobe system thursday san francisco. the program is the brainchild or katherine webster. she said she saw the need to provide transition help for vets who have hard time finding a job in the private sector with the skills they have. >> they can do any job with just a little training. >> she matched mentors with vets. former marine corps network engineer served two tours in afghan and -- afghanistan and one in iraq. >> four interviews and, we're sorry, you're not what we're looking for. >> he has been told his military trek nick cal training outdated and not transferable. while some veterans trying to find the job, others are left looking for a place to year. so this is about to open a new

veterans center. vets will soon be able to call this home. >> for as long as they want to, the rest of their life. it's permanent housing. >> he is the chief operating officer and says it's taken six years to make this a reality for homeless vets there more than 60,000 homeless vets in the u.s. ronald jones served six years in the army and has been homeless off and on for 12 years. soon he will move into the montana. >> the best veteran day gift i could get. >> joe and other vets will get medical care, counseling, camaraderie, and a police to -- place call home. the veteran common is the first housing for veterans to open in san francisco since 2000. they'll we holding an open house tomorrow from 11:00 to 3:00. reporting live, abc-7 news. >> ama: 100 homeless veterans

fromton anthonyys in the tenderloin took part in san san francisco's varps day -- veterans day parade. this year for the first time the parade began with hundreds of veterans on motorcycles. the parade began at 1:00 this morning and made its way done market street. organizers said the parade honors all soldiers, especially those who fought in afghanistan and iraq. >> the most important are the 10% to face the enemy eyeball to eyeball. they're the real heroes, and of course the win million that have been killed now. they're the heroes. >> nearly a thousand veteran were expected to attend the parade. ♪ >> ama: those who lost their lives serving their country, as well as those who turn to serve, were honored at golden gatele national cemetery. the event included music and a

wreath presentation. at arlington national cemetery president obama says americans must commit this day and every day to serve veterans as well as they have served us. >> we pause as a nation and as a people, to pay tribute to you, to thank you, to honor you, the heroes over the generations who have served this country of ours with distinction. >> ama: the president and mrs. obama hosted a white house breakfast with veterans and visited section 60 of arlington cemetery, the burial ground for military personnel killed in the global war or terror. >> a senior u.s. military official says the author who had an affair with david petraeus sent a harassing female.

peat trace quit his post went it was revealed he had an extramarital affair. details are becoming clearer tonight. here's a report. reporter: as a nation's top spy master, david petraeus must have known something about clandestine operations. why couldn't he keep his secret affair with his biographer, paula broad we were, undercover. it turned out their romance unrastled when a woman in florida received a strange and harassing e-mail from the author. kelly notified the fbi, began an information, worried the cia director's e-mail account had been compromised. what the bureau found was not compromised security but two people in a compromising position. described as, quote, human drama, including intimate exchanges between broad we were and petraeus.

>> ama: california senator dianne feinstein, the head of the senate intelligence committee, says she was unaware of the news about the scandal involving petraeus until he announced his resignation it today she said she learned about the matter from the media last week. >> i had not been told there was an affair. what i'd been told is that there was somebody else that he was -- he knew and was close to, and that mrs. broadwell sent these threatening e-mails to her, and she was frightened, and she went to the fbi. >> ama: feinstein says she has now been briefed by the fbi but want knows why the bureau didn't notify her sooner because of national security implications. police are still looking for man they say tried to run down an officer with a car this afternoon. officers had suspected the man of breaking into cars in the bay view district. after apparently trying to one he officer down, he got out of the car and it appears he ran

authorities allowed some residents to return to their homes in indianapolis after a natural gas explosion killed two people. firefighters found two bodies as they sifted through the rubble of homes leveled last night. four other people suffered minor injuries. the explosion damaged three dozen homes, some of them remain offlimits to residents. investigators spent the day looking for what caused the blast. an update now on a story abc-7 news brought you earlier this week. a missing historic clock has been restored. veterans return the clock to its original sight in 1934 the clock was erected in honor of veterans killed in war. but it was cut off its metal base and stolen after a long court battle over its legality on public land. the cross disappeared two years ago, thankses to a viewer tip, abc-7 news found it this week in san mateo county. ahead, results of a study that coffee drinkers will find

new >> ama: this year stores are kick off the holiday shopping season earlier than ever. so are the thieves apparently. in a recent case in pennsylvania, criminals ripped off presents people put on layaway. the criminals were captured on video stealing tools from a wal-mart and then using the tools to break into trailers where layaway gifts were held for customers. there's a retail theft rise by as much as 30's during the holidays. >> easier for a thief because of the sheer volume. it becomes a target-rich

bay community, temperatures will be warmer overnight. upper 30s to mid-to-low 40s there. low pressure responsible for the cold air mass moved on towards the east. high pressure will bring is a dry day. we'll keep our eyes on the cold front here. this is monday. this band stays to the north. this is 11:00 monday night. we're dry. check out tuesday. very close to the north bay and san rafael and points northword. this forecast, we're going to put maybe a chance of an isolated shower in the forecast from the golden gate bridge north. by wednesday all of this pushes towards the north. so wednesday will be one of the nicest days this work week, with dry conditions and warmer temperatures. here's a look for highed for monday. napa, 62. oakland, 64. 64, san jose.
